NAT Test Preparation
What is NAT Test?
Students who want to seek admission in any BS program right after their intermediate should prepare NAT Test. NAT test preparation is compulsory in almost all universities in Pakistan. NAT Test is being used and university entrance test at BS level. The abbreviation NAT stands for the National Aptitude Test (NAT). NAT test is used for admissions in colleges and universities for BS programs. The candidates appear in a single test only and will stand eligible for admission to all universities in the respective subject group. National Testing Service (NTS) conducts the NAT Test 4 to 5 times in a year.
There are two types of NAT tests, NAT General and NAT Special. The NAT General Test result is accepted by all universities for one year. On the other hand, the NAT Special test is conducted by NTS at the special request of specific colleges or universities. Therefore, the result of the NAT Special test is only valid for one year at the institution that requested the test.
Validity Duration of the Result of NAT Test
The result of the NAT test will be valid for “ONE YEAR”.
What are the Passing Marks of GAT General Test?
The passing marks in NAT test are 50 but different universities include the weightage of NAT scores differently. Sometime universities take aggregate of matriculation, intermediate and NAT test score.
Why Students Fails in GAT General Test?
Most students appear in the NAT test without knowing the syllabus, test pattern, test dates, and marking system, which often results in wasting a whole year with no admission. It is crucial for students to be well-informed about all aspects of the test. Additionally, poor time management during the exam, lack of practice with sample papers, overconfidence or lack of preparation, misinterpreting questions, and focusing too much on one section while neglecting others can also contribute to failing the test.

There are different categories of NAT test for different disciplines.
- NAT-IE for Pre-Engineering Group
- NAT-IM for Pre-Medical Group
- NAT-IA for Arts Group
- NAT-ICS for Computer Science
- NAT-IGS for General Science
- NAT-ICOM for Commerce
Marks Distribution for Each Category
NAT Test consist of total 90 MCQ type questions. 20 MCQs are asked from Analytical Reasoning, 20 from Verbal Reasoning and 20 from Quantitative Reasoning and 30 questions are asked form the relevant subject category.
Syllabus/Parts/Portions of GAT General Test
GAT is the short form of Graduate Assessment Test and it is categorized as General because it is applicable to all type of disciplines for admissions in MS/M.Phil. National Testing Service (NTS) conducts the GAT General Test 4 to 5 times in a year.
NAT Test Includes the following five parts of contents:
- Analytical reasoning (Scenario based questions)
- Logical Reasoning (Statement based questions)
- Quantitative reasoning (Math)
- Verbal reasoning (English)
- Subject Portion
NAT Test Verbal Reasoning Portion
Verbal reasoning part of NAT Test, tests the students’ English comprehension, grammatical knowledge and vocabulary with regards to its correct usage. Following are the different types of questions that are asked in the NAT Verbal Reasoning Portion.

NAT Test Quantitative Reasoning Portion
Quantitative reasoning portion in NAT is commonly known as math portion. This portion includes the basic math questions but it requires practice to solve questions fast due to time limitations and somewhat different from the usual long methods. The questions are based on the following types:
- Basic Arithmetic (Simplification)
- Fraction and Decimal
- Exponent and Square Roots
- LCM and HCF
- Average
- Ratio and Proportion
- Percentage
- Work
- Distance and Speed
- Problems on Ages
- Word Problems
- Profit and Loss
- Zakat Calculation

NAT Test Analytical Reasoning Portion
Analytical reasoning evaluates how candidates can make logical conclusions based on facts. In these questions, a scenario is given in a passage, also called a statement, along with four to five rules that explain or limit the information in the passage. Then, students are asked a few (usually 4 to 5 MCQs) questions about it, and sometimes new rules are added to those questions. Students need to answer by considering all the given information and rules to arrive at a logical conclusion.
NAT Test Logical Reasoning Portion
Logical Reasoning requires the same cognitive abilities and efforts that are required to solve Analytical Reasoning questions. Logical reasoning questions do not give any scenario instead these questions have a statement and only one question is asked from that statement. These questions are a bit difficult because to solve these type of questions students must have good English comprehension skills.
